How To Choose The Right Career Path After University

How To Choose The Right Career Path After University Facebook66TweetLinkedInPinEmailShares66 It can be such a struggle working out what career path is for you. Especially when there is so much pressure on Graduates to break into the workforce. Sometimes its worth taking a step back to allow yourself some time to properly look over your options. Theres no use rushing into a job or accepting an offer just for the sake of it. Remember, theres no wrong and right career path for each degree, its about whats right for you!   Grad Scheme Choosing a grad scheme can be a great way of finding out what it is that you want to do after University. Even if you dont end up choosing what you did within your Grad Scheme, you might end up networking with people who inspire you to do something completely different! Whats important is that you will have that experience under your belt, avoiding a big unexplained gap of employment. Work Experience If you have some free time over the summer, its worth completing some work experience. Whether you decide to complete it within a big company or just a small agency its a great way of familiarising yourself with a selection of different job roles Once again, if you have absolutely no idea, try completing work experience within a range of different sectors and working environments. This will help you decide whether you are the type of person who wants to work in an office or whether a more relaxed setting is better for you. Hopefully, if you like your position and the employer likes you too, theyll offer you a full or part time position hooray! Career Advice Sometimes its worth just speaking to someone else for some advice. You might be putting so much pressure on yourself that you are finding it impossible to think. Visit your nearest job centre or even your University to ask for some career guidance. Universities continue to offer help to their Graduates years after they graduate. No one expects you to know exactly what you want to do the day you finish University and thats why its important to make the most out of the support available. Career advisers have helped other job seekers in your position before and maybe even with your degree, so the advice they offer will be helpful and genuine. If its digital that you are looking to get into, check out our A day in the life of articles to see what these digital experts get up to on a day to day basis you might come across something that strikes your fancy! No Limit One of the most important things to remember is that you dont have to choose something related to your degree. Studying the same topic for 3 whole years can be draining and understandably, you may have lost interest. So, if theres a different field that you think youd like to get into why not apply to do a masters degree or another form of further education? Its never too late for a career change, especially if yours hasnt even begun. Again, you could really benefit from speaking to someone at University to ask about the courses that are available to you and whether they would suit you and your degree. Career advisers can provide some really helpful advice so its worth making the most out of whats available to you as a fresh graduate. Good luck!
